Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) With the help of a successful graduate, Maine-Endwell High School is getting a new baseball field.
Thomas Tull graduated from M-E in 1988.
Now, he's an executive at Legendary Entertainment and part owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He gave $2.2 million to his high school for a new baseball field and lights for the football stadium.
The current field is more than 30 years old.
"It's a tired old baseball field," said Maine-Endwell District's Superintendent Jason Van Fossen. "We realized at some point we would have loved to have done a capital project, but it wasn't realistic under our current financial situation."
Van Fossen calls the gift, a 'blessing.'
The new field will be all turf. Construction will start in the next few months after the plans are approved. .
"They'll be able to utilize that not only for their actual sport but also for P.E. and for community use," said Maine-Endwell District's Superintendent Jason Van Fossen. "Stadium lights will add hours more of time that they can utilize the stadium and the field and the community as well."
The football team won't be able to play under the lights until next season.
