Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It's out with the old and in with the construction at MacArthur Elementary School on Binghamton's southside.
Rooms once filled with bright colors and school supplies are now full of engineering teams, working diligently to rebuild what the September flood destroyed.
The gymnasium floor has been stripped, and lower halves of walls have been removed.
Ceiling tiles, furniture, and flooring have all been taken out as well.
The next step is to make sure all hazardous debris is out of the building and then the drying can begin.
Crews say it will take weeks to completely dry just one area of the school.
Then, the rebuilding will be able to begin.
Students that would normally attend MacArthur Elementary are currently split up according to grade levels, and have been dispersed into 3 area schools.
Binghamton City School District is working to make these temporary locations work without jeopardizing the the children's education.
