Town of Truxton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Cortland County investigators say a mechanical failure is to blame for a crash that killed seven people in Cortland County on Wednesday.
It happened just after 6 p.m. on Route 13 in the town of Truxton just after 6 p.m.
A tractor trailer was headed south when its trailer disconnected and crashed into a mini van headed in the opposite direction.
Investigators said it was all because the fifth wheel locking mechanism failed on the tractor trailer.
Among the fatalities were four children, their ages ranging from 4 to 7 years old.
The investigation is ongoing and no tickets have been issued at this time.
