(WBNG Binghamton) Home owners, businesses and farms in the Mohawk Valley received checks for recovery following flooding earlier in the summer.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the funding Thursday in Herkimer County.

He said a number of checks totaling $13.6 million will be given to those still trying to recover from flooding.

The funding will dispersed throughout Onieda, Herkimer and Montgomery counties.

"The goal here is not just replace what was, not just to rebuild, but to actually use this as an opportunity to build back better than before," said Cuomo.

Cuomo commended the state legislature on coming together to provide funding, after federal funding was not awarded.
