Geddes, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The 168th New York State Fair kicked off Thursday morning. This year's theme is "Summer's Best in Show."

The 12-day fair runs through September 1.

Visitors can come out to see the typical fair food, fun, and games.

They can also come out to be educated by the agriculture exhibits that fill the grounds.

Farmers from all over the state made their way to the fairgrounds Friday morning with their animals to display and enter in various competitions.

"This is the pinnacle of the show season for the dairy men in New York State," said a farmer from Fabius, Bret Bossard. "Before some of the national shows and state fairs. There will be showing about 200 head here showing in the show on Monday I believe, so it's a big event for the end of the summer for the state."

Bossard tells Action News that he has been attending the fair shows for the last 20 years and his cattle have come away as champions several times.

Nearly 1 million people are expected to visit the state fair, which is just outside of Syracuse.

There are more than 25 new events and activities this year, including two of the largest traveling roller coasters.
