Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Dr. Harvey G. Stenger Jr. will be making a trip to the Binghamton University campus.
The State University of New York confirms that Dr. Stenger will be in Vestal Monday.
On Tuesday, November 22, the SUNY Board of Trustees approved Dr. Harvey G. Stenger Jr. to be the next person to lead Binghamton University.
Dr. Stenger was selected unanimously by the presidential search committee and university council. He is currently the Interim Provost and Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University at Buffalo.
In June, BU's Presidential Search committee hired a new search consultant. The committee said it was looking for someone who will be an effective fundraiser, interact with the local community and political leaders, and can grow research endeavors at BU.
Off-site interviews with top candidates were conducted in August and September. SUNY leaders had been planning to hire a new president by the end of the year.
The selection was announced by SUNY Chancellor, Nancy Zimpher. Zimpher said that 106 candidates were identified, 25 were interviewed, and Stenger was part of the final five.
The SUNY Board of Trustees says Stenger's salary will be $510,000 as of July 1, 2012.
Current President Peter Magrath was already scheduled to end his term on December 31, 2011.
