(WBNG Binghamton) Nearly 2,000 Troops from the New York State Army and National Guard are ready to respond as a result of Hurricane Sandy.

Governor Andrew Cuomo ordered troops respond for assignment Sunday afternoon to prepare for deployment.

The Governor's office says soldiers will be available to help local authorities in response to storm damages in New York City, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, and the Southern Tier.

200 soldiers will go on duty Monday in Binghamton, Walton, and Horseheads to cover incidents within the Southern Tier.

Preparations have also been made to deploy aircraft and satellite communication systems if necessary.

Governor Cuomo's office says if more troops are needed, they will be deployed immediately.

More than 4,000 troops were deployed in August and September of last year as a result of Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.
