Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A downtown hotel gets a new owner and a new name.

What was formerly known as the Riverwalk Hotel and Conference Center reopened its doors Tuesday as the Double Tree by Hilton Binghamton.

The hotel is under new ownership after the damage suffered by the flooding of 2011.

Alfred Weissman Real Estate bought the hotel and has spent two years -- and millions of dollars -- to bring the building up to what he describes as a state-of-the-art facility.

"Between their investment in Hawley Street for student housing and what they've done here, the number of jobs that are being created, the energy this project is bringing to downtown. I couldn't be happier," said hotel General Manager Bud Nolan.

Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan and Broome County Executive Debbie Preston attended the ribbon cutting ceremony to welcome the growing Hilton brand to the city.
