Syracuse, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The U.S. Department of Justice will not seek the death penalty in the rape and murder case against David Renz.

The death penalty was being considered in connection with a potential federal carjacking charge, the murder of Lori Bresnahan and the rape of a 10-year-old girl, according to CNY Central.

The death penalty cannot be pursued without written authorization from the Attorney General.

Renz will be sentenced to life in prison without parole based on his guilty pleas to first degree murder and predatory sexual assault against a child.

Renz is due to be sentenced in Onondaga County Court this Friday.
