Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Village of Owego Police Department will no longer have officers on duty during the overnight hours in September due to a lack of manpower.

According to the Owego Police Benevolent Association (Owego PBA), village residents will have police matters handled by the Tioga County Sheriff's Department or the New York State Police during the hours of 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.

A press release sent Friday by Owego PBA stated, "The Owego PBA tried to warn the Village of Owego Board and the village residents that this could happen..."

In early August, the board voted and failed to come to an agreement on whether to fill two vacant Owego police officer positions. The two positions stayed open.
