Norwich, NY (WBNG Binghamton) They've waited for months, and now millions of dollars is on its way to the city of Norwich.

Sens. Charles Schumer (D-NY) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) announced Monday that more than $5 million will go toward building a new water treatment plant.

The current facility was built in 1904 and has not been renovated since 1998.

Back in March, Schumer asked the U.S. Department of Agriculture for help, and insisted a new plant was vital to the city.

The USDA will award the city a more than $4 million loan and a $1 million grant for the new plant.

Both senators believe the new plant will boost the city's economy and quality of life.
