Oneonta, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The redevelopment of the Bresee Department Store building is nearing completion to welcome its first tenants on Oct. 1.
Corning developer Charles Klugo has been redeveloping the historic downtown landmark for almost two years.
The building will reopen to commercial space on the first floor in October.
New, luxury apartment space will open on the floors above next March.
Klugo said the project has been a great way to revitalize the downtown while preserving the century's worth of character in the property.
"The building's over 100 years old," Klugo said. "And to rebuild what was structurally, some of it wasn't in good repair, so to bring it back to the historical values of what it was is very rewarding."
Klugo said the Bresee building is already 70 percent leased.
Apartments range from one to three bedrooms and rent for between $700 and $1,800 per month.
