Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Owego Police Union says the village is "drastically" cutting police services.

A flyer posted Saturday by the Owego Police Department on their Facebook page says the village's safety is at risk.

It reads a majority of the Village Board wants to stop 24-hour coverage by the police department.

Owego Mayor Kevin Millar said this stems from a proposal made from village trustees who had the idea to to break-up coverage of the village.

The proposal calls for split coverage between the County Sheriff's Office and the Owego Police Department.

The Owego Police Union says they would be only patrolling between the hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Millar said the police department should not cut back their hours.
