Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) War veterans gathered in downtown Owego to pay tribute to those that have fallen, as well as to receive recognition themselves.

There were soldiers who had served in every war in recent memory, including a soldier who fought in World War II.

There was also a big crowd of residents at the ceremony paying their respects.

"Sometimes hot food and showers were luxuries. Sometimes just waking up in a fox hole and seeing the morning light was enough joy and were prayers answered," said veteran Deacon Michael Donovan.

The crowd was led in prayer, then a gun salute performed by veterans.

Veterans Day fell on Sunday because of the end of World War I, which officially ended on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour, 1918.
