Packing and Shipping for the Holidays

Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) With 8 days until Christmas you may be ahead of the pack with shopping and wrapping, but have you packaged up the gifts you'll ship?

The shopping is done and now it's time to send all of those gifts to loved ones in different parts of the country.

If that's you, then the clock is ticking.

"West Coast, today is your last day to get it here going regular ground. We can still get it there second day, next day, but it's going to cost you more money," said owner of Pack and Mail, Sean Harrigan.

According to the United States Postal Service your packages are one of 20 billion being sent between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

"People are frantic. It's like they've gotten down to their last nerve," said Harrigan.

For local post offices and packing companies it's the busiest time of year, with lines running toward the back of the stores.

Packing companies have noticed a difference in traffic this year, people are cutting it down to the wire when it comes to shipping.

Harrigan from Pack and Mail says last year people started shipping sooner. Now it seems like a mad dash to the finish line.

"The volume is about 10 times more than what it is normally," said Harrigan.

Employees are taping, weighing, and boxing up piles of gifts.

"We take the packages for them, we pack them, up, we can even gift wrap it for them," said Harrigan.

The last day to ship for Christmas through the United States Postal Service is December 20th through First Class Mail.
