Town of Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Broome County Sheriff says law enforcement personnel are still searching for Aaron Powell, 39, of Binghamton, as a person of interest in a double homicide investigation. His estranged wife was one of the victims.
On Friday, his estranged wife, Christina Powell, 35, was found dead inside her home at 4185 Lisi Lane in the Town of Binghamton.
Also found dead was Mario Masciarelli, 24, who lived on Burr Avenue in Binghamton.
Harder said Sunday the autopsies on the victims have been completed at the Onondaga Medical Examiner's Office in Syracuse and that the results should be released Monday.
"It appeared that Mario Masciarelli suffered a head wound with a blunt instrument and that Christina had been choked to death," Harder said. The Sheriff's Office believe the victims had been dead within 24 hours of being found.
Harder said Aaron and Christina Powell were in the process of divorcing. They had one 5-year-old child together who is now with family. Aaron Powell had two other children who are also with family.
Aaron Powell had been living at 31 Milford St. in Binghamton. Investigators carried out a search warrant at his home. They currently have no leads as to his whereabouts.
Sheriff Harder reached out to Powell, "Please contact us. Turn yourself in at this time. Whatever we can do to have you come back. We'll meet you some place, just give us a call."
Just after midnight, Broome County undercover deputies, investigators and evidence technicians were seen at 31 Milford St. They were concentrating their search of the white duplex on the first floor, which was lit up. The rest of the home was dark.
Harder said he may be driving a black 2007 GMC Denali SUV, with license plate number GDU-3346.
On Friday, an all points bulletin announced via emergency communications said Powell may have a handgun with him.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Broome County Sheriff's office at (607) 778-1196.
Harder would only say that Christina Powell and Masciarelli were friends.
Also, there are no records of domestic disputes between Aaron and Christina Powell. Aaron had been arrested for Criminal Contempt for violating an order of protection in the past. However, Harder said it did not involve Christina and is not related to this investigation.
