State Police: Fatal Crash Driver Drunk

Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) New York State Police say the man responsible for a two car crash that killed both drivers was legally drunk.

The crash was on Route 434 on October 7.

Nancy McQueeney, 49 of Owego and Wendell Strum, 79, of Apalachin both died.

Strum was driving the white Honda which crossed the center line near the Owego Town Hall.

Toxicology tests show his blood alcohol level was a 0.12.

Strum was driving a vehicle registered to the New York Department of Transportation.

He worked for the DOT in Bridge Maintenance.

State Police and the NYSDOT would not comment about whether Strum was working at the time of the accident.

Bill Reynolds with NYSDOT. issued the following statement.

"We have been working cooperatively with the state police department in their investigation and are conducting our own investigation into the accident."

Nancy McQueeney was a bus driver for the Owego-Apalachin School District.
