Man arrested for attempted rape

Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Police say an Endicott man on Sunday tried to rape a woman, and then made off with her purse.

Members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested Futahi T. Hampton, 33, of Exchange Street in Endicott, on Sunday.

Deputies responded to the area of 3 Delaware Ave. in the Town of Union following a report from a woman that a man had attempted to rape her and stole her purse while she was walking back to her home.

A description of the man was released and Hampton was found a short time later at a convenience store in Endicott.

An investigation was conducted into the incident and Hampton was arrested. He is charged with attempted rape in the first degree and robbery in the third degree, both felonies.

He was arraigned in the Town of Chenango Court and taken to the Broome County Jail where he remains without bail.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by members of the Endicott Police Department.
