Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) As part of the STOP DWI program, State Police and Sheriff's Office deputies will increase patrols through the Labor Day weekend.

The state awarded $10,000 to Broome County to continue its DWI crackdowns for the summer time holidays.

Broome County Sheriff's Captain Frederick Akshar reported significantly more arrests since the summer crackdowns began.

"We've gotten much better results because again," Akshar said, "The officers are able to focus their efforts on one specific task versus having to answer complaints and such."

Broome County has special DWI enforcement patrols to look for drunk drivers.

The extra patrols will continue through August into the Labor Day weekend.
