Police: Man robs gas station, caught stealing from convenience store

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A man accused of robbing a gas station early Saturday morning is caught about five hours later stealing from a convenience store.

Police arrested Steven VanWinkle, 39, Saturday.

According to police, he robbed the Hess Station on Glenwood Avenue in Binghamton at knifepoint around 5 a.m.

He got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes.

Police said he fled on foot.

Police later found him while responding to a larceny at the Family Dollar on Clinton Street in Binghamton.

VanWinkle has been charged with robbery and theft.
