(WBNG Binghamton) Broome County Executive Debbie Preston underwent surgery Monday to remove the upper left lobe of her lung.

On April 24, Preston announced she had been diagnosed with lung cancer.

The surgery was performed Monday morning at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. According to her office, there were no significant complications and everything went according to plan.

Preston is recovering in the hospital’s intensive care unit. She is expected to be back in Broome County by the end of the week.
