Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The New York Department of Transportation announced crews will begin excavating rock along Prospect Mountain starting June 20.
The process of shaving it down will involve the use of explosives but do not expect dramatic blasting.
It will take place slowly starting on the west side and moving east.
The excavation work will last through August during weekdays.
The DOT said drivers should anticipate rolling slow downs between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on I-81 northbound and southbound and Route 17 eastbound and westbound.
There will also be flag personnel guiding traffic on Front Street, Prospect Street and side roads.
This work will continue daily between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. weekdays through August.
