Public Servant and Businessman Passes

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Bob Moppert passed away Wednesday at age 69.

He retired as Regional Director of Economic Development for New York.

Moppert was a businessman who had owned Mapes Moving and Storage in Vestal.

He was elected to the Broome County Legislature and served from 1987 to 1992.

Moppert ran for Congress as a Republican for the 26th Congressional District in 1992, 1994 and 2000.

"He was always upbeat everyday, I never saw Bob down, even when he was ill. He was very positive. The community has lost a very dear friend, I've lost a friend also," said State Senator Thomas Libous.

He was a graduate of Broome Community College.

Moppert served on the BCC Board of Trustees and was a past Chairman.
