Norwich, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Ganesh "Remy" Ramsaran killed his wife and college sweetheart in the New Berlin home the two shared for years, according to an indictment handed up last week by a Chenango County grand jury.
The indictment says authorities believe Ganesh killed Jennifer Ramsaran, 36, on or around Dec. 11 at 449 Sheff Road in New Berlin.
Ramsaran, 38, pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder charges Tuesday, and was escorted back to Chenango County Jail following his arraignment.
The Chenango County Judge set bail at $500,000 or $1 million real property bond.
Ramsaran did not speak as he entered the side door of the courthouse accompanied by his two attorneys and deputies.
A crowd of about 50 people entered through the courthouse's front doors, including the family of Jennifer Ramsaran.
Ramsaran's attorney entered the not guilty plea, Ramsaran spoke twice when asked by the judge to confirm his identity.
Dozens of residents who are also members of the "Justice for Jennifer" Facebook group showed up wearing blue ribbons that featured the group's name.
Rebecca Schoener, who knew Ramsaran as a baby sitter, said she suspected Remy Ramsaran since he began speaking to the media.
"Like a month after I heard about it, I really thought it was him," Schoener said. "I've seen him on TV the first time and the reactions, and feelings I felt, it was just, I felt it was him the whole time."
Judge Frank Revoir, Jr. denied Ramsaran's attorney's appeal for some sort of house arrest instead of jail.
Ramsaran was given an hour with his attorney's after the hearing.
When Ramsaran was escorted out of the courthouse by Sheriff's officers, dozens of residents waiting shouted, "Justice for Jennifer."
April Tuttle helped organize the crowd waiting for Ramsaran.
"My knees are shaking, my arms are shaky," Tuttle said. "I'm happy but at the same time I'm nervous because they've got a lot of money."
Chenango County deputies took Ramsaran to the Chenango County Correctional Facility.
Jennifer went missing on Dec.11, 2012, and her body was found on the side of a road in the town of Pharsalia in February.
