Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) An award winning children's book author and illustrator stops at a Vestal school.

Katherine Hannigan read to students at African Road Elementary on Tuesday.

Hannigan is the author of the New York Times bestseller "Ida B and Her Plans to Maximize Fun, Avoid Disaster and (Possibly) Save the World,". It won a Parent's Choice Gold Award.

She told students that she was shy growing up and never thought she'd grow up to be an author.

"No one ever said to me, you know you're just a great author. I know that's what your going to do and yet that's what I've ended up doing," said Hannigan.

Her other books include "Emmaline and the Bunny" and "True (sort of)." She's currently writing another one.

Hannigan's presentation supports the literacy curriculum of the district and was sponsored by the African Road PTO Reading Committee.
