Report Outlines Job Creation At Tioga Downs

Nichols, NY (WBNG Binghamton) How has Tioga Downs Casino helped Tioga County?

The New York Gaming Association releases part one of a two part report.

Outlining the positive impact racetrack casinos like Tioga Downs have had on our economy.

According to the study conducted by an independent firm, Tioga Downs pumped almost $28.5 million dollars into Tioga County last year, and provided 611 local full time and part time jobs.

Of those, 249 people are directly employed by the casino.

The study also found Tioga Downs supported 166 jobs for racing and breeding.

Employees' wages and salaries add up to more than $7 million dollars.

Of the 27 million the facility generated in state revenue, more than $21 million dollars went toward education in the Empire State.

The second part of the report is expected in the next couple of weeks.

It will highlight how much more the facility could grow if enhanced gaming is allowed in New York State.

The racino generates about $29 million each year for our area and the state.
