(WBNG Binghamton) The S.O.S. Shelter gets a new name.
The shelter launched a new name for their organization Wednesday night.
For 34 years, it was known as the "S.O.S Shelter". Now, it will go by "RISE."
"As the organization has grown over the years from a shelter which was critical to offer so many more services to victims of domestic violence," said Rebecca Allerton, executive director of RISE. "We really thought that we needed something different that would reflect a lot of things."
The name change aligns with Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
RISE offers therapeutic services, legal help and locating community services in our area for those faced with domestic abuse.
