Sandy Prep: Owego State of Emergency

Monday, October 30

The Village of Owego, at 9 a.m. on Oct. 30, lifted the State of Emergency that was declared yesterday in anticipation of Hurricane Sandy. The effects on the Village of Owego was less than expected. Village crews and volunteers were prepared to deal with the predicted scenario of many trees and wires down.

Monday, October 29

Village of Owego Mayor Millar has declared a State of Emergency in the Village of Owego due to severe weather and anticipated damage due to Hurricane Sandy.

The will be a curfew from 9 PM on Monday 10/29/2012 until 6 AM Oct 30, 2012. There is also a prohibition on vehicle traffic except emergency vehicles from 9 PM until 6 AM 10/30/2012. These may be extended if conditions warrant.

Shelters are available at Abide on the Vine on Taylor Road in Owego and Allen Memorial Baptist Church in Candor.

High winds are anticipated over most on New York and New England which may make restoration of power slow. Rain fall predictions are for 1-3 inches which will not trigger flooding however flash floods are still possible in some areas.
