Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A $7 million senior living community could be built in the village of Endicott.

DiFrancesco Development Group is proposing a rental community off Franklin Street for people age 55 and older.

Skye View Heights would include 60 units, all on one floor. The units would include attached garages, walk-in showers and two bedrooms.

Skye View would take care of all outdoor maintenance, such as snow shoveling and lawn mowing.

Developers said they want to create a home, not just another apartment.

"It's very hard for older people to downsize, simplify their lives. And I don't think a lot of people want to go into apartment living, they want to still have their independence," said Monarco DiFrancesco, of the DiFrancesco Development Group.

The Village Planning and Zoning board will vote on the project on May 8.

DiFrancesco hopes to start accepting applications in May and have the project completed in September.

The units would be built in an area to be eligible for Endicott's municipal electric, which cuts electric bills by two thirds.

Monthly rent for the units would range from $1,350 to $1,500 and the sizes vary from just under 1,000 square feet to 1,350 square feet.
