Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Have you thought about getting your loved one flowers for Valentine's Day? Local florists say they are ready and waiting.
For local flower shops in the Southern Tier, February 14th is one of their biggest business days.
According to the National Retail Federation, the average person celebrating the holiday of love will spend more than $126.00 this year. That number is up 8.5% from last year.
Local shops were busy on Sunday preparing for last minute shoppers as well, making sure they are stocked with this years most popular flowers.
"We make up arrangements that we think will sell. Follow the theme of the holiday. Of course the big one is red rose. Over the years more colors have crept in," says Scot Mac Lennan with Mac Lennan's Flowers Inc..
Flower shops in the area say based on last year Monday will be the big day for phone orders.
Those calls will add even more deliveries to the dozens they already have booked. The most popular flower of choice to deliver florists say is roses.
More than $17 billion will be spent on Valentine's Day in the U.S., according to the National Retail Federation.
