Town Of Dickinson, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Students are competing and showing their skills in building robots.

High school student teams from the Southern Tier competed in the Career Pathways of the Southern Tier High School Robotics Challenge at Broome Community College Tuesday morning.

The goal is to develop fully operational robots like these to pick up soda cans and plastic balls.

Some teams are even using bluetooth technology on these machines, controlling the robots with cell phones, video game controllers and computers.

"There's a large robot floating around that Union Endicott uses to compete. I think internationally, certainly nationally," says BCC Assistant Professor of Physics Glenn Modrak. "And they're here to demo that so that will be a blast."

Winners of the competition take all the bragging rights.

Organizers say it is a friendly competition that trains kids minds and teaches them to use logic.
