(WBNG Binghamton) The family of a teenage girl who died at the hands of her boyfriend is seeking damages.
Shelby Jenkins was 16 when 20-year-old Steven Lipka strangled her.
She was living with Lipka and his grandparents on Westland Road in Vestal.
Jenkins' family claims Lipka's grandparents and a neighbor supplied him with alcohol the night of her death.
The lawsuit also claims Lipka had a history of becoming violent when consuming alcohol.
The lawsuit names Lipka's grandparents, Faye Lipka-Pellett and Michael Pellett, and neighbor Keith Cleveland. It calls their actions negligent, reckless and careless.
Lipka is serving an 18-year sentence for first-degree manslaughter.
The lawsuit does not ask for a specific amount for damages.
