Thirty units evacuated during apartment building fire

Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Crews called for the evacuation of 30 apartments after one caught fire just after 9:00 a.m. in the Town of Union.

The call came at about 9:04 for a blaze at 207 Bornt Hill Road, the Bornt Hill Apartments.

The fire severely burned apartment 27, an apartment on the second story of the building. Most of the damage was to the front porch and attic space of the unit, according to Chief David Thomas, West Corners Fire Department.

The apartment below took on water damage.

Crews evacuated the entire building and had the blaze out within minutes of responding.

Fire officials said no one was injured and everyone got out safely. Two people lived in the apartment.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Fire departments from West Corners, Endwell, Vestal, Campville, Endicott responded as well as NYSEG and the Broome County Sheriff's Office.
