Traffic stop leads to marijuana, cocaine bust

Town of Fenton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A Queens man was arrested during a traffic stop for having nearly two pounds of marijuana on him.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, a sergeant pulled over a 2002 Toyota for speeding Saturday afternoon on West Service Road in the town of Fenton.

The sergeant found one of the passengers, Mohamed Rumy Abdul-Jabbar, 27, of Queens, N.Y., in possession of 1.7 pounds of "high-grade" marijuana in a backpack.

The sergeant also found a plastic bag of cocaine.

Abdul-Jabbar was charged with one count of criminal possession of marijuana in the second degree, a class D felony, and one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor.

He was arraigned in the Town of Fenton Court and sent to the Broome County Jail without bail pending county court action.

The driver, Abdul-Jabbar's girlfriend, was given a ticket for speeding and released.
