Town of Geddes, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Action News is taking you all around the Great New York State Fair this week. Thursday's stop is the New York State Police exhibit near Chevy Court.

Troopers offer shows to the public at least three to four times per day; from K9s to underwater diver demonstrations, there's a lot to see.

"People don't realize that this was our first assignment when we started in 1917. We've been here for that many years, so we've got this down to a science," says Trooper Jack Keller, of Troop D. "It gives us an opportunity to interact with the community and also show kids how special we are in the way that we have specialized units, and that when they see bad things on TV, there's a good side of us, too."

A small museum honoring the history of State Police may be found next to the log cabin booth.

That's where you'll find displays of old pictures and a memorial to the fallen.

State Police welcome any of the younger people who may be thinking about joining their force to stop over to their booth and say hello.
