Trumansburg Man Charged With Murder

Trumansburg, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Trumansburg Police, Tompkins County Sheriff’s deputies, NYS State Police and NYS Park Police responded to 104 Tamarack Lane in the Village of Trumansburg early Wednesday morning for a reported shooting.

Upon arrival officers found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and torso.

The victim, identified as Salvatore P. Taranto age 58 of 104 Tamarack Lane was transported to Cayuga Medical Center by Trumansburg Ambulance.

The victim died shortly thereafter.

Police arrested Matthew Taranto, age 28, and charged him with second-degree murder in connection with the incident.

Matthew Taranto was arraigned in Ulysses Town Court where he was remanded to the Tompkins County Jail with no bail set.

Matthew Taranto is scheduled to reappear in Ulysses Town Court on Monday December 6th 2010 at 2:00pm.

The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the New York Sate Police and the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office.
