Town of Chenango, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It's the seventh house fire in five days, and it left a family without a home in Chenango Bridge.

Multiple crews respond to a two-alarm fire at 2 Jewell Ave. in Chenango Bridge.

The call went out just after 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Officials said the fire likely started in the basement and then made it's way through the walls and into the attic. The official cause remains under investigation.

The fire was stubborn as crews battled smoke and flames for more than two hours before they were able to enter the home.

Crews tried to fight the fire from inside when they first arrived, but they were ordered out because it became too unsafe, according to Chenango Bridge Fire Chief Brian Curtis.

"The fire got through to the floor and into the walls and roof area. And at that time, we had to pull everybody out and reevaluate it," Curtis said.

Crews also had to battle the elements with temperatures well below freezing.

No one was injured.
