(WBNG Binghamton) New updates on a teen girl who died Wednesday night after rescue crews pulled her from the Susquehanna River in Endicott.

Investigators have confirmed that Sekia D. Cureton, 15, of Endicott has died.

Wednesday, emergency crews responded to 1900 block of Riverview Drive in Endicott just minutes before noon, on the report of a young girl in the river.

That call came from a friend who was with Cureton, and ran to a nearby house to call 911.

After responding to the scene, crews found Cureton six feet from the shore of the Susquehanna River.

Crews from the Endicott Fire Department and the Union Volunteer Emergency Squad immediately began taking life saving measures.

Cureton was transported to Wilson Hospital where she later died.

The Endicott Police Department believes that Cureton either slipped or fell into the river.

They are calling the death a tragic accident.

Thursday, Union Endicott High School Students wore the color green in memory of Cureton.

U-E High School has made counselors available to all high school students struggling with the loss, and send the message to parents that if they sense their child is struggling, to call the U-E Guidance office.
