Los Angeles, CA (WBNG Binghamton) Environmentalist lawyer Erin Brockovich and her team of investigators continue their efforts to try to figure out what's causing a mysterious illness in western New York.
Brockovich released a statement yesterday to clarify what her team is doing.
She says its investigation into possible environmental contamination may or may not be linked to the mysterious illnesses affecting a group of high school students in Le Roy, NY.
The team is looking for chemicals on the Le Roy Sportmans' Club property, where a train derailed in the 1970's.
"It took the EPA 40 years to investigate the contamination from the train derailment and it will take us more than 40 days to get to the root of the problem in Leroy," the lawyer says. " I want to further stress that we have not ruled out the TCE plume from the train derailment as a source of contamination at LeRoy High School."
Brockovich says it appears more people are showing signs of serious health issues that can come from TCE.
Her team is also looking into possible contamination at the local quarry, as well as at 6 fracking wells on high school property.
The team will wait to release its findings until its investigation is complete.
