Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Broome County Urban League held it's annual benefit dinner Friday night to recognize outstanding students.

The League also announced the new board of directors at the dinner.

The mission of the Urban League is to "enable African Americans, other minorities, and the poor to secure economic self-reliance, parity, and civil rights."

Members of the organization are connected to classes, technology, jobs, and children's programs.

A summer program for children with disabilities is one of the services offered, and has proved to be a big success.

"The program does not ask that the child fits inside the program's mold, to the best of our ability, we fit the program to the child's needs," said Jennifer Lesko, Broom County Urban League CEO.

The benefit dinner drew many community members out to celebrate the achievements of one another and raise awareness for the organization.
