Urban farming legislation hits snag

July 2, 2013 Updated Jul 3, 2013 at 12:20 AM EDT

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Binghamton City Council decided Tuesday night to table legislation that would define guidelines for urban farming.

Anticipation of the legislation has been growing for the past few weeks.

The ordinance was scheduled to be voted on Tuesday, but sponsors said it's simply not ready, and that enough support wasn't there.

The legislation would have provided guidelines on urban agriculture including composting, establishing community gardens and raising small livestock.

The legislation will now go back to a council workshop to be reconstructed before it heads back to public hearings.

After the hearing, it will be voted on by the council.

The workshop is scheduled for July 15.
