WWII vet receives surprise medals

Town of Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A local church held a moment of silence to pray for and remember those who have served.

Seven World War II veterans were in the audience at Hawleyton United Methodist Church's Sunday service. One in particular got a special surprise.

Ed Shapley was presented with four long-awaited medals for his time serving in the Air Force in World War II.

Shapley said he never thought he was going to receive the medals.

People could also sign cards that will be sent to wounded veterans at the Walter Reed Medical Center.
