Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Relay for Life of Western Broome is asking residents to "Change the Channel on Cancer."

The organization kicked off the annual event Wednesday night at Nirchi's on the Avenue.

The relay will be held 12 p.m. to 8 a.m. May 18-19 at Sammon Park. This year's theme is "Changing the Channel on Cancer."

Vestal high school senior, Rachel Bomysoab, lost her mom to cancer.

"It is a really personal event and its really special just to have someone there," said Bomysoab.

Relay for Life Staff Director Joan Ticknor agrees.

"It's inspirational, too. We are going to be doing a survivor and caregiver ceremony that honors them and those who have lost their battle to cancer."

Ticknor says she has nearly 14 teams already lined up for this year's relay. But her goal is 28.
