Woman Arrested for Abandoning Newborn

Lisle, NY (WBNG Binghamton) On June 23, New York State Police at Binghamton arrest a woman for abandoning a newborn infant.

Police arrested Sara J. Clauson, 26, of Lisle, NY for Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, a Class “D” Felony.

On June 16, 2011 at approximately 11:00 A.M., New York State Troopers responded to the Shady Maple Trailer Park for a report of an abandoned newborn infant.

The ensuing investigation revealed Sara Clauson had given birth to the infant during the early morning hours of June 16, 2011 and then abandoned the infant on a lawn near another residence within the trailer park.

The infant was discovered approximately 6 and a half hours later with police and EMS being contacted.

The infant was transported by Broome County Ambulance to Wilson Memorial Hospital where she remains in stable condition.

Broome County Child Protective Services, who assisted with the investigation, has taken protective custody of the baby girl pending Broome County Family Court Action.

Broome County District Attorney Gerald Mollen was informed of this investigation and say additional charges may be filed after presentation to the Grand Jury.

Clauson was arraigned before Town of Lisle Justice Penny Dalfavero and released on her own recognizance.
