Vestal, N.Y. (WBNG Binghamton) Research development is at the top of the agenda for the Binghamton University Council.

The group said the university is constantly expanding; the student population has already grown from 15,000 to 17,000.

New faculty members at the university are expanding research possibilities at the university even further, with a strong focus on flexible electronics.

"We are about to open our Center of Excellence Building. It's the building that is west-most of this complex. We have three buildings: engineering, biotechnology, and now the Center of Excellence. The Center of Excellence will conduct research related to electronic packaging," said Bahgat Sammakia, Vice President of Binghamton University Research.

A fourth building, called the Smart Energy Building, will be added to the complex as well. This building will house chemistry and physics and may be the last structure added to complete the complex.
