Justin Culligan

Justin is a native of Upstate New York, originally from the suburbs outside of Buffalo. Having lived in that part of the state for much of his life, Justin became fascinated by the region’s infamous lake effect snowstorms, which is what really sparked his interest in the weather. His most vivid memory of lake effect is from October 2006 when a freak early season storm dumped 23 inches of snow on Buffalo, resulting in tremendous devastation to trees that were still in leaf. He also recalls a storm in December 1995 that dropped 38 inches of snow in less than 24 hours.

Justin graduated from Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire with a B.S. in meteorology in May 2006. He is a member of both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. He joined the WBNG-TV weather team part time in October 2006, and became a full time meteorologist and reporter in October 2007. Justin is looking forward to spending time in the Twin Tiers, and is excited by the possibility of experiencing and forecasting the region’s unique variety of weather conditions.

In his free time Justin is an avid outdoor enthusiast. He enjoys hiking, biking, skiing, and snowshoeing. During his college career he climbed all 48 four thousand foot peaks in the state of New Hampshire, and skied down Tuckerman Ravine on the eastern slope of Mount Washington. When he’s not spending time outside, he enjoys visiting friends and family.
