Town of Dickinson (WBNG Binghamton) A program designed to build and bring more manufacturing jobs in the Binghamton area started up at SUNY Broome.
It's all part of "Retooling the Southern Tier." That's a program focused on keeping and building manufacturing jobs in the area.
Staff members in the Engineering Technology department say the program will help to make sure students are well educated, in a world where technology is constantly changing.
It's also designed to prepare students for immediate employment.
"This program is very beneficial for students because there is a demand and when students walk out of BCC with a degree in manufacturing technology, they'll be fully ready to go to work immediately," said chairman of the Engineering and Technology department Joe DeAngelo.
The manufacturing program has the potential to train and educate up to 300 students annually who could become qualified for new and expanded manufacturing jobs.
