Around the Tiers:"Girl Up 5k"

(WBNG Binghamton) An event to help raise awareness and support for adolescent girls in developing countries is coming up soon. Participating will also keep you in shape.

The Maine-Endwell High School Girl Up club will hold a "Girl Up 5K and Kids Run" May 10 at Otsiningo Park, Binghamton. The kids run will begin at 9 a.m.; the 5K will begin at 10 a.m.

Girl Up is a United Nations campaign that engages teens in the United States to raise awareness and support for adolescent girls in developing countries. Proceeds from the run will benefit underprivileged girls in Guatemala, Ethiopia, Liberia and Malawi.

Pre-registration will take place until April 27. Cost for both adults and children is $22 and includes a shirt, or $15 without a shirt. Day of race registration is $15, without a shirt.
