Around the Tiers: Comets at Kopernik

(WBNG Binghamton) Looking for a new way to explore comets and meteors? Roy Williams from the Kopernik Observatory came by to tell us more and other upcoming events at Kopernik.

The following is from Kopernik Observatory:

Spend the weekend at KOSC exploring comets and meteors. It will include a presentation on comets by Prof. David Jenkins of Binghamton University. Students will learn about meteor

On Saturday afternoon, students will attend a class on Fractals. Tuition for this event includes the Fractal Class.

If clear, students will take advantage of Kopernik’s dark skies to photograph both the Geminid Meteors & Comet ISON. If cloudy, students will create high speed video photography of simulated meteor impacts and enjoy a Sci-fi movie about meteors. Meals are included on Saturday and Sunday morning. From Dec. 6-8: Weekend Merit Badge Extravaganza

This is a boy scout weekend where we are going to do two different merit badges, learn about the comet and hopefully photograph it.

Dec. 13-14: Geminid Meteors & Comet ISON Overnight

Students grades 8-12 will spend the weekend at Kopernik to view both the Geminid Meteor shower and Comet ISON.
