(WBNG Binghamton) St. James Peace and Justice Committee is running a gun buy back program on May 11.
St James Peace & Justice Committee has had several programs to try to reduce the number of guns in the community.
"Groceries for Guns" netted 57 guns the first time it ran.
Lack of funds reduced the number of guns exchanged in subsequent collections. However, last year St. James had no funds available for an exchange. This year, they are making an appeal to help make groceries for guns once again a success.
In past collections, guns collected were crushed by the Broome County Sheriff's Department with members of St James Peace/Action members present.
On May 11, Groceries for Guns will run again from 9 a.m. to noon.
$50 grocery certificates for each hand gun or long gun and $100 for assault rifles will be given out.
Donations for the program are encourage. Checks are payable to St James Church-- Groceries for Guns. Send to St James Church, C/O Peace/Justice Committee, 147 Main St Johnson City, NY 13790.
